Dookram leads WASA ‘A’ past D’Abadie Youths

Former top-ranked local men’s player Yuvraaj Dookram had another unbeaten outing as WASA ‘A’ defeated D’Abadie Youths 6-3 to improve to a perfect 3-0 in the A-1 Division of the East Zone Division Table Tennis Tournament at D’Abadie Community Centre, D’Abadie on Friday night.

Dookram outplayed Pierre 11-6, 11-8, 12-10; Sorzano 11-3, 11-7, 12-10 and Nanton, 11-9, 11-7, 11-5.

Curtis Humphreys was beaten by Everton Sorzano 12-14, 9-11, 7-11 before defeating Michael Nanton 11-5, 11-2, 11-6 and previously unbeaten Sherdon Pierre, 11-9, 6-11, 11-6, 11-2.

Kenneth Parmanand humbled Nanton 11-9, 14-16, 11-5, 11-6, but went under to Pierre, 9-11, 12-14, 11-5, 11-3, 10-12 and Sorzano 12-10, 15-17, 3-11, 5-11.

The win improved WASA ‘A’ to a maximum six points from two matches five ahead of WASA ‘B’ and D’Abadie Youths while Arima Hawks will play its first match tonight (Monday, June 11) versus D’Abadie Youths.

On Wednesday, June 13, WASA ‘B’ comes up against Arima Hawks while WASA ‘A’ concludes its schedule against Arima Hawks on Thursday, June 14, and a day later (Friday, June 15), D’Abadie Youths entertains WASA ‘A’.

On Friday night in the A-2 Division, Daveon Humphreys won his matches versus Rhonnel Forde (11-5, 11-9, 11-6); Sheldon Graham (11-3, 11-9, 11-8) and Jahred Corbin (11-8, 16-14, 14-12) to lead D’Abadie Youths past WASA ‘B’, 7-2.

Daryl Rampersad won two matches for D’Abadie, beating Graham 11-7, 11-5, 10-12, 4-11, 11-7 and Forde 11-3, 13-11, 11-8 but was beaten by Corbin 16-14, 8-11, 6-11, 6-11.

Carlisle Cleveland, won two matches as well D’Abadie, 11-8, 5-11, 12-10, 12-10 over Corbin and Forde 11-3, 11-5, 11-8, but fell to Graham as well, 11-9, 11-9, 8-11, 10-12, 11-13

The all-important win lifted D’Abadie Youths to ten points and a 3-1 record, three more than Arima Table Tennis Club which must beat unbeaten WASA ‘A” on Tuesday, June 12 to have a chance at the title.

WASA ‘A’, third with six points and a 2-0 record can also capture the title but must win its remaining matches against Arima Table Tennis Club and Arima Hawks ‘A’, third with a 1-2 record and five points.
