T&T’s Jason Mohammed

Manager of the T&T Red Force team Roland Sampath is keeping his fingers crossed that batsmen Darren Bravo and Jason Mohammed will be ready in time for tomorrow's opening clash of the CWI Regional Super50 at the Queen's Park Oval in Port-of-Spain.

The full team trained for the first time yesterday at the Oval under the watchful eyes of head coach Kelvin Williams and all was reported well. The only issue remains the fitness of batsmen Bravo and Mohammed. Both players suffered hamstring injuries during the recently concluded Caribbean Premier League (CPL) T20 tournament.

Sampath, who spoke to Guardian Media Sports yesterday said he was hoping the duo is ready for the opening clash against the Windward Islands Volcanoes. "The two players have been undergoing therapy for their injuries and things have been coming along very nicely with them. We are hoping they will be ready for action come Wednesday.

"Today we had a very good work out at the Queen's Park Oval. All the big guns were in attendance at training today and the mood was great. These guys have not played together for T&T for quite a long time and as a result, they are keen and really looking forward to playing together again."

Sampath said everything is in place for a great challenge for the title and the only little worry at the moment is whether the players will be able to transition quickly from the T20 mode to the 50 overs format.

"These guys are coming in from CPL and also from all over the world playing T20 cricket and we are hoping that they transition very quickly into the longer format. Apart from that, we know the power we have and it is just a matter of playing together and sticking to the basics to get the desired results."

T&T Red Force the most successful 50-overs team in the Caribbean has been without a regional title since 2016.
