Excitement galore! The atmosphere is electric! You can hear people screaming all over, “It’s celebration time!” Many are enthusiastically smiling and are proud of the achievements to be celebrated, but let us not get carried away or be distracted when our emotions blindly take rule. There’s a time for everything under the sun and as much as we rightfully relish in the accomplishments and the euphoria of the cheerful moments, we must remain aware of those who at the same time, may not be able to share in the joyous and momentous occasions. This was recently vividly highlighted as we celebrated the country’s second gold medal at an Olympics. Ironically, earlier that day there wasn’t much for some families to celebrate, as flooding caused devastation, mayhem and sadly, even loss of life. There’s always a lot going on when we knowingly or unknowingly turn a blind eye. Yes, we must celebrate and commemorate history in the making, but please remain aware, that history is always in the making. It is made every second of the day by our individual and collective choices. No matter how big or small those choices are, the ‘little things’ still do make a big difference.
With this in mind, we need to celebrate the smallest and seemingly insignificant accomplishments. You got up this morning; that’s something to celebrate, because no matter what you go through, know that you can get through it. As bad as it is, it could have been worse and some are in fact experiencing something many times worse. Be encouraged. For all, as long as there’s life, there’s hope. Whether or not we acknowledge it, another day has been given to us. Another day to discover our God-given purpose! WE are all born to be winners! That fact, based on our present experiences, may be hard for some to stomach, but it doesn’t mean that it’s not true. It’s true for every person we look up to or wrongfully look down at. We ALWAYS have something to celebrate! Whatever seems impossible to achieve or insignificant, is very possible and indeed significant. Consider this: It is impossible to write ‘impossible’ without ‘possible’ and similarly, it is impossible to write ‘insignificant’ without ‘significant.’ Significantly, it means that everything that is possible is significant to someone or something. Importantly, it is significant to the degree of what it means for us individually and collectively. We must always question ourselves as to whether or not we are celebrating at the expense of another, or are we in fact always mindful of each other while we celebrate. The person, who appears to be the least amongst us, may one day be heralded to be the most noteworthy. Life is queer with its twists and turns. What goes around comes around. The occasions for recognition and celebration will come and I daresay are always here, but what must come first is responsibility. Let us make every effort to be responsible individuals even while we celebrate. A nation’s history; another Olympic medal; the sights and sounds we take for granted; life itself…there’s so much to celebrate! Excitement galore! The atmosphere is electric! It’s time for meaningful consideration…then celebration!!!
